How is Feng Shui incense used?
I like burning incense so for Christmas I got a pack of Feng Shui incense with 5 different scents (earth, wood, fire, metal, water). Is there a particular way/place to burn the sticks that is better or more harmonious or “correct”? The more detail the better.
first, there’s no incense in fengshui… maybe in some chinese religion. fengshui is not a belief, and therefore not a religion. it is also not a philosophy. so what is fengshui about? it is about knowing where the good energy (or bad energy) is inside the house, and how to use it accordingly to optimize life while you live in that house. the essence is when you live in an area with good energy, then the characteristics of that good energy will become your life. so how do you know which area is good and which area is bad? by using certain fengshui methods like flying stars.
next, there is no such thing as making the 5 elements exist harmoniously in the house. fengshui practitioners just tell you that to stop them from sharing their trade secrets – so you stop asking questions.
there is such thing as balancing a house, and it involves the elements – not by burning incense. basically, fire is not a good thing inside the house. remember the energy distribution i was talking about? well, the energy are formed by 3 elements reacting and interacting with each other. numbers are used to represent the 5 elements, each with its own characteristics, and to facilitate analyzing, which is common in fengshui. so, the elements are not tangible things that forms the new energy, but it exist in that specific location in the house. there are combinations that forms fire, which cause fire in the house as in fire accidents, and illness related to blood or heart when you live in that area more like when your bedroom is located in such area. when you burn incense in this area, it will activate the fire even more. still water like a bucket of water in this area will diminish the fire temporarily. but a moving water like a fish tank (moving from the fish or an aerator) will activate/ aggravate the fire. this is just a part of how the elements work in fengshui. so burning incense is not adviseable.
third, there is an effective practice within the chinese community. incense is usually burned when you feel that there is ghost/ spirits in your house. the smoke from the incense usually calms them, sort of their cigarette.
